Although the assignment was only limited to the business planning phase, we are proud of our tangible contribution on different levels, in one of the largest military production factories in Egypt with over 19 different plants producing a diversified portfolio of products. Following the extensive gap analysis, our progressive organization design and the introduction of a new “compressors” department, led to the development of a new set of reports and analytical data, which revealed that the company was only utilizing 40% of its current capacity of compressors, in a time when they were processing the purchase of new compressors worth 120 million Egyptian pounds. The decision was aborted, and true savings secured for the firm. Another success story in the place was the workload allocation exercise, which revealed that there was a surplus of 1000 workers out of 4500 existing. Taking into consideration the challenging socio-economic situation, our team of manufacturing and operations experts developed a list of over 70 different feeding components that were traditional imported and can be locally manufactured through small and medium entrepreneurship projects. Fit for Life took the lead in facilitating and brokering a protocol between the Egyptian Military Production Authority and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, whereby the agency would assess and qualify the surplus of 1000 workers, to become eligible for launching their own private businesses, and hence they would be producers of the 70 different feeding components for the factories, a win-win situation, where the company is freed from fixed costs and surplus unproductive labor, a large number of SMEs is established serving the long term objectives of the government and socioeconomic issues are well preserved and respected.
